Grocery Shopping Haul

This is the only grocery shopping I did this week which I did at Aldi’s. I am shopping there more and more. Their prices are so good compared to my local grocery stores and Walmart. But the best part is that if I buy on sale, we can get grass fed meat for a lot cheaper than anywhere else. We have found their grass fed organic meat to be delicious!

I really never wanted to spend so much money on grass fed meat. But I have found that by cutting the junk food out of our diet, I am able to buy grass fed a lot more often. Junk food was costing us a fortune and it has no nutritional value. We are spending no more on groceries than we were before we started buying grass fed meat.

To keep Hubby happy on this diet, I buy these Parmesan Crisps for snacks for him. They are 100% Parmesan cheese.

This week I have continued cleaning and organizing. Most everything on our main living floor is in pretty good shape because I keep on top of it.

So this week, I donated some items out of our gift closet that I knew we would never use. Then I reorganized and cleaned it.

But the biggest organization I did was under the sink. It was a mess. Every time one of us used a cleaner, we stuck it under there. UGH! So I pulled everything out and only put back what we would actually use in the kitchen. It cleaned up very nicely. The white wastebasket is our recycle can. When it is full, we take it to the recycle bin in the garage. I keep a few glass jars behind it for grease disposal. The stackable bins hold dishwasher tablets in one and sponges and magic erasers in the other. The other container holds Comet(which I clean the sink with) stainless steel cleaner for my appliances, cleaner for the gas range, steel wool pads and a toothbrush for cleaning in cracks and crevices.

I have no need to have dish liquid, hand soap, or all purpose cleaner under there because I keep them on a tray next to the sink. Extras are always in my basement storage.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

A Very Large Grocery Haul

We needed food for us and for company coming. So I did all of my errands and grocery shopping in about 3 hours. I first went to the library to donate some more books and then to Fast Cash to bring back two bags of Hubby’s cans and bottles.

Then I did the grocery shopping. First shop was Aldi’s pictured above. Here is the receipt.

Next was a trip to Top’s. Here is that receipt.

The last stop was at Niagara Produce.

The total was $ 117.10. It is the most I have spent on groceries in a long time. Hubby and I love grass fed loin lamb chops from Australia. Top’s had them on sale for $ 6.99 a lb. $26.01 was spent on those. That is such a terrific deal. I may go back and get more since they had a limit of three on them.

Niagara Produce had chicken tenders on sale for $1.99 a lb. Their chicken is so tender and these will be handy for quick buffalo chicken or bunless fajitas. When I am in need of quick cold cuts, they have the freshest in town and the cheapest.  I was also happy to see this bag of lemons on sale because my supply of frozen lemon slices was just about gone. I always use them in my water.

I am off to hopefully finish the basement today. I have a few more things to move and some vacuuming to do and the pantry will be empty and ready for Hubby to finish it. It has been a major job. Many nights I just fell into bed exhausted.

Did you get anything on sale when you grocery shopped this week? Won’t you share it with us?

Grocery Shopping This Week

I have not been grocery shopping in quite a while. So I picked up some things we needed.

Aldi’s:

Romaine Lettuce – $ 2.39
2 bags of Brussel Sprouts $ 1.09 each = $ 2.18
Olive Oil Spray – $ 1.79
2 Half and Half – $ 1.55 each = $ 3.10
1/2 gallon of Milk – $ 1.59
Chocolate Syrup – $ 1.59

Total was $ 12.64.

Top’s:

1 lb. of Bacon – $ 2.99 after Q
1 Ajax Dish Liquid – $ 1.99
2 Edy’s Ice Cream – $ 4.99 each = $ 9.98

Total was $ 15.12.

The ice cream and syrup is for ice cream sundaes when West visits. Bacon for Sunday breakfasts. Everything else I was out of.

We really have not been spending much on groceries lately.  I am really trying to make a push to use up what we have so that I can defrost the freezer.

A Small Grocery Haul and a Head’s Up

On the way home from the dentist today, I stopped at Wegman’s since it was close by and picked up the only grocery haul that I will be doing this week.

I have been to the dentist this week multiple times. I had two teeth extracted and got my full denture. I have been having an awful time of it. I don’t know why because I have had teeth extracted before but this time it has really been an ordeal. I am in pain and I had to have an adjustment today because of the denture digging into my gums. Needless to say, I have only been eating hard boiled eggs and mashed avocado for my meals. The dentist told me to take Tylenol but it is a drug that my body can’t handle so I am trying to ignore the pain.

This had really thrown me for a loop because I am a very strong individual and usually handle things well. So this is very aggravating to me!

So I have been spending most of my time sleeping or just resting. I may or may not post for the rest of the week. Hopefully this will pass soon. Till then, take care.

Grocery Shopping This Week

I needed a lot of things this week. This is what I purchased at Top’s:

2 Grated Cheddar Cheese – $ 2.50 ea.= $ 5.00
2 Mexican Blend Cheese – $ 2.50 ea = $ 5.00
5 Pace Salsa – $ 1.49 ea. wyb 5 = $ 7.45
2 Strawberries- B1G1F = $ 5.49
Deli Provolone Cheese – $ 3.70
Deli Turkey Breast – $ 8.18
2 Jello – $ .79 ea. =$ 1.58
4 – V8 juice – $2.49 ea. =$ 9.96
2 bags of Sweet Peppers – B1G1F – $ 3.99
1 lb. Jimmy Dean Bacon – $ 3.99 with Super Cpn.

Total was $ 54.34. I screwed up really bad here. I forgot that in order to get the discounted price on the V8, I had to buy 5. Then they would have been $1.99 each. I will be taking them back and doing it correctly to save myself $ .50 each.

Hubby was craving a sandwich and requested the cold cuts. This will get him through until I cook a turkey which I will do this week. We were totally out of these two cheeses so I stocked while they were on sale.

This is what I purchased at Aldi. Due to a lot on my schedule today, I am showing the receipt today, since it is short. Total was $ 61.75.

Hubby wanted the pork butt, which was on sale to cook slowly to tenderize it. I have never ever cooked a pork butt before. We will see how it turns out. I am hoping to shred it and mix it with SF BBQ sauce. Then freeze it in portions. He also requested the pork sausage since he loves it with eggs for breakfast.

Hubby loves the chocolate Coconut Cashew Crisps for a snack. They are so popular at my Aldi that they are hard to find. When I find them today, I bought a bunch. I love a Caramel one once in a while, so I bought one for me.

We were out of wings and shrimp and Aldi has the best prices in my area for them. The ground chicken is for lunches this week. I will be making burgers out of it.

We were all out of cocktail sauce which is how we eat our shrimp. The coffee is to hold Hubby until his Amazon subscribe and save order comes. The creamer and milk were necessities.

So I spent a total of $ 116.09. But I have not spent  a lot prior this month.

Have you gotten any good deals this month? Please share with us.

Grocery Shopping Day

With the exception of buying sea scallops, 4 lbs. of organic ground beef, and a large package of chicken breasts, these shops are all that I have purchased at the grocery store since the last week in December.

This is what I purchased at Aldi today:

6 Hass Avocados – $ .59 ea. = $ 3.54

2 bags of Riced Cauliflower – $ 1.69 ea. =$ 3.38

1 pkg. of Romaine Lettuce – $ $ 2.39

My total was $ 9.31.

This is what I purchased at Top’s:

1 bag of corn – $ 1.00

Bananas – $ 1.20

2 dozen Eggland Best Eggs – after Q’s – $ 2.00 for both

My total was $3.95 after my Senior Discount of 6%.

I have tried more than once to rice my own cauliflower. I just can’t make it taste as good as the frozen. So I have given up. When the frozen is on sale like today, I buy a couple.

Does anyone know how to freeze avocados? I know you can buy them frozen in a bag so there must be a way to do it at home. I am guessing that I dice them into chunks and either put lemon or lime juice on them to prevent them from turning brown and then freeze them. If you have done this would you let me know how. I would love to be able to freeze them when they have a rock bottom sale like this because I eat a half of one every day.

It has been a productive day. Besides shopping, I did my exercising, talked to my dentist for a while to figure out our next step on the very long saga of my teeth(more about that in a later post), cooked a pound of bacon in the oven(I forgot to take a pic after it was cooked), scanned my receipts into the Fetch app., and worked some more in the basement. We have almost the entire storage wall done. Hubby is installing everything on his new computer so he has quit for the day. I may go back down and work there for a while.

Are you being productive today? Did you get any good grocery deals this week?

Grocery and Other Shopping This Past Week

We did a bit of grocery shopping this week because we needed a few things and I am making a meat and cheese tray to take to a party soon.

I also needed to pick up a few things at Dollar Tree that I needed to take food to the party on. By buying it at Dollar Tree, it does not matter if the dish doesn’t come home with me. I picked up two different trays because I don’t know yet which one will get used for the party. Which ever one becomes the spare will get used eventually. I am not crazy about the Christmas one but it was all they had. I will be covering the center of it with parchment paper to put the food on if I use it. I also purchased little cup things to hold mustards, olives, and pepper rings. The gold forks and knives will be put next to the tray for people to dish onto their plates with. And lastly, rather than make a second trip, I picked up a birthday card for West who will be 10 in January. So I spent a whopping $ 5.40 including tax.

Here is my Top’s shop:

3 Fresh Express Salad Kits $ 10.00
5 packages of Margherita Pepperoni – $ 7.98(B2G3F)
1 Peter Pan Peanut Butter – $ 1.49 with Store Q

Total was $ 19.47.

Here is my Aldi’s shop:

6 Avocados @ $.69 each = $ 4.14
Bag of Peppers – $ 2.99
Summer Sausage – $ 2.99
3 Prosciutto – $ 2.75 each = $ 8.25
1 Regular Salami – $ 2.79
1 Bite Size Salami – $ 3.99
2 Heavy Whipping Cream – $ 1.55 each = $ 3.10
1 Half and Half – $ 1.55
1 frozen Riced Cauliflower – $ 1.89
1 Irish Cheese – $ 3.99
1 Whiskey Cheese – $ 3.99
1 jar of Olives – $ .79
1 Avocado Oil – $ 6.99
1 Beef Snack Sticks – $ 3.49
1 Pepper Rings – $ 1.65
3 dozen Eggs @ $ .49 each = $ 1.47

Total was $ 54.06.

Most of the money was spent on the party items. The eggs, salad kits, peanut butter, avocado oil, whipping cream, half and half, and riced cauliflower were needs. We use the cauliflower instead of rice. The pepperoni was such a great deal so I got all 5. Some will go on the platter and the rest we will eat for snacks and in salads. So they won’t last long. We were almost out of each of the rest of the items that get used all the time.

Not all of the meats will get put on the platter. I wanted to buy enough to fill them but there will be leftovers. So anything left from the party platter will be used for an antipasto dinner later in the week.

Yesterday, I cooked a pound of bacon in the oven that I pulled out of the freezer. Since it was an entire pound it took two pans. I really like this method. I may never cook bacon on top of the stove again.

And after we ate. What was left on this pan and on the other one got bagged up to go with eggs for our breakfasts the rest of the week.

Last night Hubby cooked lots of chicken wings in our air fryer oven.  I made a Buffalo wing sauce with Frank’s hot sauce and butter. They were delicious and will last us two meals.

Grocery Shopping This Past Week

Grocery shopping was done after the roads had been salted and sanded. Finally the sun came out yesterday. We had about an inch of ice coating our trees and roads on Sunday evening. We could not even see out of our windows the ice was so thick. Then on Monday we got about 4 inches of snow. For we in the Buffalo area, this was really nothing.

My son, DIL, and granddaughter went home on Saturday because they were supposed to get hit with a huge snowstorm starting on Sunday. My son and his family also were watching the weather and they went home from NH on Saturday also.

My granddaughter had yesterday and today off from school. She is delighted. My DIL also has had these days off because of the snow. They ended up with 22 inches of snow. I am happy that they are all cozy and warm at home and that I didn’t have to worry about them traveling home in bad weather.

But yesterday, I was able to maneuver the roads and go to Top’s. This is what I purchased:

Fresh Haddock – $ 8.79

6 Hass Avocados – $ .79 each – Used 2 $.75/3 cpns. that doubled = $ .29 each = $ 1.74

3 Black Olives – 3/$5.00

1 dozen Organic Eggs – $ 3.99

2 SF Cool Whip – $ 2.19 each = $ 4.38

1 Half & Half – $ 2.69

1 Box of SF Popsicles – $ 4.99

1 Riced Cauliflower – $ 2.89

1 Large GG Mashed Cauliflower – $ 5.49

1 Gallon of Distilled Water – $ 1.00

1 bag of Skinny Pop – $ 5.49

Total OOP after 6% Senior Discount($ 2.97) was $43.50 including $ .02 tax.

Hubby loves haddock and I love salmon. I am still using the salmon that I purchased at half off for $3.84 back in July.

The Hass avocados were a great deal at $.79 each but even better when my DIL found me coupons for $.75/3 that doubled. I have been going without avocados because I refused to pay $ 2.50 each for them. The olives will be used for a meat and cheese platter that we are taking to a Christmas party soon.

I was almost out of eggs so I got a dozen. I only had one half & half in the freezer and we drink a lot of coffee.  SF Cool whip was needed to go with our dessert of SF jello. SF popsicles and the Skinny Pop are my guilty pleasures once in a while. I love these cauliflower products. They are so yummy as a side dish. The water was needed for a medical device.

I am back down to spending about $ 50. each week and I am hoping to lower that in 2020. We have so much food in our pantry, fridge, and freezers that we are eating out of them continually and just filling in with what is needed each week.

Did you get any great deals this past week? Please share with all of us.

Grocery Shopping This Past Week

I did a bit of grocery shopping this past week:

Top’s:

1 Turkey – $ .48 lb.- $ 6.29

1 Celery – $.77

1 Perry’s Vanilla Ice Cream – $ 3.34

1 Mushrooms – $ 2.50

1 Organic Lettuce – $ 2.99

1 Apple Juice – $ 2.29

2 SF Cool Whip – $ 4.38 for both

1 PF Herb Stuffing – $ 2.50

1 Hellman’s Mayonaise – $ 2.99 after Q

Total OOP was $ 27.89 plus $ 6.29 for the turkey = $ 34.18. I found the mayonaise still in the car the next day so it is not pictured. I had to spend $ 25. in order to get the turkey for $.48 lb.

Wegman’s:

1 Turkey – $ .48 a lb. = $ 9.38

1 Crest – $ 2.29 after Q

1 Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil Mayo – $ 7.99

1 Primal Kitchen Italian Dressing – $ 5.99

1 Green Olives – $ 1.99

2 Black Olives – $ 1.39 ea. = $ 2.78

Half Gallon Egg Nog – $ 5.29

1 Lay’s Poppables – $2.00

2 Skinny Pop – $ 2.99 ea. = $ 5.98

Total including tax before the turkey was $ 34.60 plus $ 9.38 for the turkey = $ 43.98. I had to spend at least $ 25. to get the turkey at $ .48 a lb.

Aldi’s was two trips:

12 lbs. of Butter – $ 1.99 a lb. = $ 23.88

1 Prosciutto – $ 2.75

1 Sour Cream – $ .89

Total for both trips was $ 27.52.

I am shopped out. Except to go get another turkey at Aldi’s next week , I will not be doing much more shopping. So far I have purchased 3 different brands of turkey. I got a Butterball, a Top’s, and a Shady Brook. I will get a Honeysuckle White at Aldi’s. I want to see which one is the best. I have always cooked a Butterball for Thanksgiving because we really like them. But it is time to experiment again and see which we like best.

Some of the things I purchased are for Thanksgiving and some are for the stockpile. I had to replace the ice cream for Thanksgiving that I had purchased since West ate some last weekend. I also have a big turkey so needed another package of stuffing mix.

I will be back with a post on Monday but then I am taking the rest of the week off to get ready for company and to make our Thanksgiving dinner.

I am off of here to bake 2 loaves of cinnamon swirl bread and some chocolate chip cookies at my granddaughter’s request. Fortunately, I have some room left in the freezer to put them until Wednesday night. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Grocery Shopping This Past Week

I needed to go grocery shopping yesterday not only because we needed a couple of things but because it was Senior Discount Day (6% off). This is what I purchased at Top’s:

4 jars of Ragu Spaghetti Sauce – $ .75 each after Q’s = $ 3.00

4 Kummelweck rolls – $ .75 each = $ 3.00

1 Bag of Ruffles – $ 1.99 after Q

1/2 lb of Virginia Baked Ham – $ 3.36

1/2 lb. of Charlie The Butcher Roast Beef – $ 6.59- comes with free au jus

5 pkgs. of Jimmy Dean Bacon – $ 17.98 after B2G3F

4 pkgs. of Taco Seasoning – Free after Q’s

1 Celery – $ .88 after Q

24 ct. Large Eggs – $ 1.99

1 Land of Lakes Cream Cheese – $ .99 after Q

1 Box of Microwave Popcorn – $ 2.99

Total was $ 39.93 after 6% discount.

This is the cheapest spaghetti sauce that I have seen in a long time. When I don’t have time to make homemade for West, it will come in handy.

The rolls were for beef on a weck sandwiches for dinner last night. And yes, I ate a roll- the 2nd one that I have eaten in 8 months. This is my very favorite sandwich and since my blood work numbers were so beautiful yesterday, I celebrated. But it will probably be another 4 – 5 months before I eat any bread again.

The chips and celery were purchased for Thanksgiving. Hubby wanted the cold cuts for his lunches. We use a lot of bacon for Sunday family breakfasts. Eggs were a great price and I was down to 2 dozen. I use a lot of cream cheese. Hubby wanted the popcorn for snacks.

I have a busy day so I need to hard boil a dozen eggs for my breakfasts. Then I will go out to the Post Office to make a return and to Kohl’s to use up some Kohl’s cash. We have a snowstorm coming tomorrow so I want to get these things done.
