Organic Smoked Turkey – $ 4.49

2 Cream Cheese – $ .79 each = $ 1.58

2 Heavy Whipping Cream – $ 1.55 each = $ 3.10

2 Half and Half – $ 1.55 each = $ 3.10

2 doz. Large Eggs – $ .89 each = $ 1.78

1 Sunflower Kernels – $ 1.59

2 Macadamia Nuts – $ 8.99 each = $ 17.98

1 Roasted Pistachios – $ 3.59

1 Trail Mix – $5.49

1 Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil – $ 2.29

1 Pkg. of Romaine Hearts – $ 2.39

1 Pkg. of Food Saver Rolls – $ 9.99

Total was $ 61.11 including tax.

My supply of nuts and sunflower kernels was almost gone so I stocked for a while. The trail mix is one of Hubby’s snacks. I have at least 1/2 an avocado a day. Sometimes more if I have a salad for dinner and want some cubed up on it.

I love smoked turkey spread with cream cheese, rolled  up and cut into slices. YUM! The whipping cream is for my coffee and the half and half for Hubby’s coffee.

I now after this shop have 4 dozen eggs in the fridge. We eat a lot of eggs.  We also go through a lot romaine and lettuce in salads.

The aluminum foil is to use for my Thanksgiving turkey.

The bonus this week was the deal on the Food Saver rolls. These were a great price and fit my Food Saver.

Grocery Shopping This Week

We are still working on the garage slowly but surely. I went to Valu Home Center yesterday to pick up 4 packs of LED 75W and 60W bulbs. One of the bulbs in our garage burnt out and with the dreary weather, it was making it hard to see out there. We also needed to replace one in the kitchen. Yes, they are all under warranty but it takes a while to get replacements. However, I will be calling the manufacturers today.

I hope all of you are having a good week. It is nice that Fall is finally here in the Northeast. The tree leaves are changing and it is so pretty.

I did just a small shopping trip this week. We have built up quite a stockpile so didn’t need much. This is what I got at Top’s:

4 pkgs. of Mama Lucia Italian Meatballs – $ 2.99 each after $1.00 off Q’s

2 dozen medium eggs – $ .69 each

Total was $ 13.34. Hubby took back a bag of soda cans to Fash Cash and got $ 3.60 back in deposits which went right back into my grocery budget.

I almost always make homemade meatballs. But I couldn’t resist the price on these meatballs. We have had Mama Lucia’s before and they are very good. The bags were 26 oz. each. Considering the cost to actually make homemade, these were a no brainer. They work out to $ 1.84 per pound and include all of the spices. But the best part is they will stock me for the winter and I can use our stockpile of organic ground beef for hamburgers, chili, meatloaf, etc.

We go through eggs like water. I eat two every morning and Hubby loves egg salad for lunch. Between those things and cooking eggs almost every Sunday for our family, I can never have to many eggs. I like to keep about 3-4 dozen in the refrigerator at all times.

I promise I will be back with my frugal things post tomorrow.

My Grocery Shop This Week

I did a small shop on Sunday for some needed items and a stock up on ground turkey and ham slices.  We use the ground turkey in place of ground beef once in a while for a leaner meat. The ham slices are for our Sunday breakfasts. I alternate them with bacon and sausage.

This trip was done at Top’s:

4 Ground Turkey -$ 2.88 ea. = $11.52 – used (2) $.75/2 Q’s that doubled = $ 8.02 or about $2.00 each

5 Hatfield 8 oz. Ham slices on B2G3 Free = $ 7.98 or about $1.60 each

1 dozen eggs – $ 99. with Super Coupon

1 Head of Lettuce -$ .99 with Super Coupon

My total was $ 17.98.

1 pkg. of Cheddar Cheese Slices – $ 1.79

Total for this order was $37.71. Total for the week was $83.61.

Someone asked me if I am still following my diet. I am. The “junk food” you see is for Hubby and West who is coming to visit this weekend. Hubby shopped at Aldi’s with me for the first time ever. He hates grocery shopping but he lived through it. He thought Aldi’s was confusing and too crowded. Quite a few of these items were put in my cart when I wasn’t looking. I wanted to make sure we don’t run out of ground beef this winter. Hubby loves to make his chili recipe.

We have been very busy working on a special project. Fall always seems to be our busiest time of the year. Just getting the house ready and stocking for winter takes some time. Our landscape crew will be here for the Fall cleanup in our gardens later this month. The sprinkler system people will be here to blow out the lines. The pesticide people will be here  with bug control and vole control. At least all of these are done for us. But we have caulking and weather stripping to do. Contractors will be here all day Monday and Tuesday working on our special project. And in the meantime, I am purging the house again. Anything that hasn’t been used in a year is finding a new home.

I hope you all have a beautiful Fall weekend. We will enjoy it and have fun with West. Be back on Monday with a post on how we handle the budget these days.

When I left the store I picked up next week’s flyer( starts October 6th) and saw that the organic grass fed ground beef will be on sale next week for $ 4.49 a lb. You must buy a large package of 4lbs. to get that price. I will be all over that since we use a lot of it.

Grocery Shopping This Past Week

I went shopping at Walmart and Top’s this past week. I only needed a few things and they are pictured.

Top’s:

2 pkgs. of shrimp – $ 7.99 each

Total was $ 15.98

Walmart:

4 Lay’s Poppables – $2.48 each – (2) $1./2 Q’s =$ 7.92

1 jar of Olives – $ 4.96

36 Eggs – $ 2.29

1 Primal Kitchen Mayo – $ 7.96

2 Canadian Bacon – $ 3.48 ea. = $ 6.96

Total was $ 30.09 but I used a $5.00 Walmart GC so final total was $ 25.09.

We haven’t had shrimp in a while and I can have it on my diet so I bought these on sale.

The poppables were not needed but I decided to stock while I still had coupons.

The olives don’t last long around here because Hubby loves them. I will get more at the Thanksgiving sales.

I can always use eggs and this is a good price in my area for 3 dozen.

This is the only mayo that I eat on my diet. It’s expensive but so worth it. The last time I purchased this it was $ 8.49 at Amazon. Walmart is now carrying it cheaper.

I found the Canadian Bacon cheaper by almost $2.00 each at Walmart over Top’s.

Grocery Shopping This Past Week

I went grocery shopping this past week at Walmart. I did that mainly to get snacks for Hubby. When he wants those I find a way to get them cheaply. Knowing that I had a total of $25.00 in free Walmart gift cards, Walmart was the perfect choice.

Walmart:

2 pkgs. of broccoli florets – $1.00 each
1 Lay’s Poppables – $1.98 after Q
2 Doritos – $2.00 each after Q
1 Frito’s Scoops – $ 1.98 after Q
1 pkg. corn – $1.00
2 Pizza Dough – $1.00 each
1 Orville Redenbacher popcorn – $ 4.98
1 Fiesta Cheese – $ 2.56
1 Wholly Guacamole Minis – $ 3.78(reduced for quick sale)
1 Ruffles – $ 3.48 after Q = $ 2.98
1 Spring Mix – $ 2.97(reduced for quick sale)
1 Cinnamon Cream Cheese – $ 1.57
1 M & M’s – $ 2.98
1 Seeded Rolls – $ 2.78
1 Croissants – $ 2.39(reduced for quick sale)
1 Angel Food Cake – $ 1.78 (reduced for quick sale)

Total was $ 18.86 after $ 25.00 in Walmart Gift Cards.

The Q’s were off 2 pkgs. of Lay’s and were stickies on the packages so keep your eye out for them. I have never seen so many reduced for quick sale items at my Walmart. I think I shopped right after they marked them down. Hubby is loving the angel food cake and croissants. I am loving the spring mix and the mini guacamoles on my salads. West is coming to stay for 4 days soon so we will make homemade pizzas which he loves.

Grocery Shopping This Past Week and Good Family News

There was no stockpiling on this trip because nothing that I needed to add to my winter supplies was on sale at my rock bottom price.

I went to Aldi’s and Top’s and this is what I purchased:

Aldi’s:

Large Eggs – $ 1.09
1/2 gallon of milk – $ 1.19
Bacon – $ 3.79
Loaf of bread – $ . 85
Sour Cream – $.89
Romaine Hearts – $ 2.19
Winter Blend Cauliflower & Broccoli – $ 1.09
1 Cantaloupe – $ 1.49

Total was $ 12.58.

Top’s:

4.60 Lbs. of Apples @ $ .49 lb. = $ 2.25
18 oz. of Lean Ground Turkey – $ 2.99 – Free with Coupon
1 Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice – $ 1.49 after store cpn
16 oz. Planter’s Cocktail Peanuts – $ 3.79
2 Cucumbers – $.99 each = $ 1.98

Total was $ 9.51.

Eggs are higher than they have been and will probably go higher the colder it gets here. Hubby was almost out of milk for cereal. We always need bacon.

Tonight we are having taco salads using the romaine, ground turkey and sour cream. The veggies will get used this week. I eat a lot of veggies for dinners and lunches.

Hubby loves melon for breakfast. I will be making homemade applesauce from the apples. We needed the cucumbers for salads. And last, Hubby wanted to make banana salad and he had no peanuts.

Now for the good family news: My oldest son graduated from a 2 year community college after high school. He was all set to attend a 4 year college out of state but changed his mind 3 weeks prior to starting. A few years after getting his 2 year degree, he married and then they had my granddaughter. During that time he started going back to college nights to get his B.S. degree. It has taken him almost 18 years in 3 different states, with several moves, starting and stopping, but he never lost sight of his goal. He now has all of his credits and all course work completed and is getting his B.S. diploma. Needless to say we are very proud of him. He did it the hard way just like his Dad! I have to give my daughter in law some credit for this too. It isn’t easy to raise a child while your Hubby is working and going to school nights. I remember all too well. Thank you DIL for always being there for your family.

It’s Been A Rough Day

Sorry this is so late but I have had a rough day. Besides a medical appointment this morning, I went to Dash’s for the shop I am about to show you.

I was doing fine until I hit another car backing out of a parking space at Dash’s supermarket. I was pretty shook up and happy that no one was hurt including me. It was just a little fender bender. I haven’t had an accident since my 20’s. So it has been about 50 years.

I managed to get most of the info the insurance company needed. I forgot the license plate of the car I hit. I was pretty shook up but I drove the 15 miles home. I called my insurance company and advised them.

Then after Hubby teasing me and calling me “Crash”,
I went back out driving to do another errand. I needed to go or I was afraid I wouldn’t get in the car again. And I do 90% of the driving. So now I am calmer and I can tell you about my grocery shop.

This is what I got at Dash’s:

1 Wavy Lay’s – $ 4.49

2 French Onion Dip @ $1.50 each

5 lbs. of Red Potatoes – $2.99

2 tomatoes on sale for $.99 a lb. = $ 1.48

1 piece of Fresh Haddock – $4.00

2 very thick cut boneless NY Strip Steaks – $27.04

Total OOP was $ 43.00.

The chips and dip are for Hubby’s football games this week. Hubby wanted some potatoes to make potato salad. The tomatoes are needed for BLT’s tomorrow night. Tonight, I am baking salmon for me and haddock for Hubby. I will add either a salad or some frozen veggies. Hubby loved the steak I got there last week. He said it was the best we had in years. So I got two more to put in the freezer. I will wrap them separately for two more steak dinners for us.

To end my day, when I came home from running the last errand, Hubby told me that we got some great family news that we had been waiting for. That made my day after everything else.

I hope you are all having a better day than I did this morning.

What We Ate and Grocery Shopping

Well, I wasn’t any better this past week on taking pictures of our dinner. But I did keep track of what we ate:

Salads with bits of turkey, lettuce, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, black olives and avocado – 2 dinners

Taco salad – 1 dinner

Hamburgers with tomato, onion and lettuce =1 dinner

Salmon and a tossed salad – 1 dinner

Salmon and Broccoli – 1 dinner

Diced turkey salad – 1 dinner

Breakfasts and lunches were the usual.

I shopped at Aldi’s, Top’s, Walmart, and Dash’s this  past week. I also shopped at Consumer’s Beverage and the Wine and Liquor Outlet. While I was doing those, I picked up Hubby’s prescriptions at the drugstore and went to the bank for our September cash. I spent a fortune this week stocking up. Hubby is cooking dinner for our friends next week. So he had a list of items he needed to do that. The shopping took me two days. One shopping day was in town and the other was in another town about 45 minutes from us. Yes, it is worth the hour and half drive when they have such good deals plus it is only about 20 minutes from our bank.

Aldi’s:

Lemon Juice – $ 2.39
Dill Pickles – $ 1.35
Spinach – $ 1.39
Parsley – $ .95
Olives – $ .79
Yeast – $ .89
Gruyere Cheese – $ 2.99
Tortilla Rounds – $ .89
1% Milk – $ 1.29

Total $ 12.93

Consumer’s Beverage:

2 – 2ltr. Pepsi – $ 2.50 for both

Thin Man Burning Money Beer – $11.99

Total $ 31.36(incl. deposits and tax)

Wine and Liquor Outlet:

Captain Morgan’s Rum – $ 26.95
Moscato – $ 7.67

Total – $37.39

Top’s:

Cantaloupe $ 1.28
4 Oscar Mayer Bacon – $19.98 for all
2 Cracker Barrel Cheddar Cheese – $4.99 for both
2 SF Cool Whip – $ 1.99 each
3 Shaved Beef Steak – $ 7.99 each
4 Weck Rolls – $ 3.00 for all
2 G Hughes BBQ Sauce – $ 3.49 each
1 Rotisserie Chicken – $ 4.99
1 Hellman’s Mayonaise – $ 1.24
6 lbs. of Onions – $ 7.98
5 Beef Consomme – $ 9.95
2 Beefsteak tomatoes – $ 2.57
24 pack of Diet Coke – $ 4.99

Total – $ 96.65

Walmart:

2 Linguine – $ 1.00 each
1 Capers – $1.89

Total – $ 3.89

Dash’s:

2 Thick Cut Boneless Strip Steaks @ $ 7.99 a lb. =
$22.61

1 Zucchini – $ .88 a lb. = $ .82

7 pkgs. of Boneless Chicken Breasts @ $ 1.68 a lb. =
$ 23.88

2 pkgs. of Ground Chicken @ $ 2.29 a lb. = $ 5.11

8 pkgs. of Ground Chuck @ $ 2.99 a lb. = $ 25.78
3 cans of Duncan Hines Frosting – $ 5.00 for all

Total was $ 83.21.

The total for two days worth of grocery shopping, beer, and liquor was $ 265.43. I still have lots of money saved up in my grocery budget for a big shop around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Hubby and I will share an end of the season grilled strip steak on Labor Day. Hubby is making French onion soup and  lemon chicken piccata with linguine when our friends come for dinner. I am making homemade French bread( for the soup) and SF pudding with SF cool whip for dessert. Hubby won a contest years ago for his soup and his lemon chicken piccata is outstanding. Our friends wanted to try both dishes so Hubby has decided to do both of them.

Dash’s has the best meats. They are tender and flavorful. So when I saw the sale on the ground chuck and the chicken, I knew I had to make the trip. Their chicken has no fluid added to it which we like.

No one in my area makes ground chuck anymore. So I stocked for the winter. Some nights we substitute the ground chicken in our taco salads.

Yesterday I shopped for so long that I was beat. So I picked up the rotisserie chicken. I do that when I can buy it cheaper than buying one and cooking it. At $ 4.99, it was a no brainer.

Did you make anything special for dinner last week? Did you get any good stock up deals?
