Monday’s Frugal Things

Breakfast was early this morning because we have so much to do today. I made bacon and eggs for us. We also had many cups of coffee.

One thing we are not doing this week is grocery shopping. I perused all of the Aldi’s, Top’s, Dash’s and Price Rite ads and there was nothing that I wanted or needed that would get me out of the house. If we happen to go near Niagara Produce for some other reason, I will stop in for a fresh tomato. But I will not make a special trip just for that. We will be eating from our pantry, fridge, and freezer.

After we got the bed and lamps out of our master bedroom, I worked in the pantry again today organizing it. I am devoting small chunks of time each day until the pantry is done.

We had to open up the door and heat registers in the two guest bedrooms today so that they will be warm enough for us to sleep in them for three nights until our new beds come. But they will get closed right back up again when we move back into the master bedroom.

I did a few loads of wash today in cold water. I had a load of clothes, a load of sheets from the bed we took out, and some blankets to wash. I used my homemade detergent. The clothes were hung to dry on the drying rack and the shower rod. The sheets and blankets were dried in the dryer using the wool balls to cut down on the time needed.

Two buttons were getting loose on my winter coat so I sewed them back on.

I took a break for a while this afternoon from all of the work to do some crossword puzzles in the book that I got in my stocking this past Saturday. I just needed to relax a bit.

Hubby and I also caught up on CSI Las Vegas and NCIS LA.

For dinner tonight, I am making Cajun Andouille Smoked Sausage with peppers and onions. Entertainment will be my usual Monday night chat with my baby sister.

What did you do to save a bit of money today?

Hi Precious. I had a busy day today also. I got my hair cut at our local Great Clips that I usually go to. They have some good hairdressers at my location that have been in the business a long time. Afterwards I stopped by our bank to get a CD. I was able to get a matched rate of 4.3% for 12 mos that one of the other local banks advertised in yesterdays paper. I will write you and tell you my story about it after I am done here. I went to my Y class. I picked up older granddaughter from school and had her this afternoon. We had some chicken tikka masala for dinner with stuff I had at home. The sauce you can buy at Costco and we really like it. I put in leftover chicken, frozen spinach and cooked onion to make it a one pot meal with rice I cooked in the microwave. We put a dollop of plain Greek yogurt on top. It is SO good, and we have leftovers too. I also cut up an apple for each of us for a fruit.

Tonight I will watch Antiques Roadshow for entertainment. It is my favorite show.

I picked up loss leaders only at the grocery store and stuck to my list.
Our new mattress came today but we need to wait until tomorrow to unpack it and I hope it only takes a day to expand.
MIL paid her plow bill so that was deposited, more snow on its way because 200” isn’t enough for the season yet…:)

Since the sun finally came out, DH and I took a ride up through the farm lands. It was so great to get out of the house. Period! We stopped at one of my favorite Goodwill stores and I found an almost complete dinnerware set of Corelle. My favorite! I missed my old set as I foolishly gave it away. Since then I’ve been on the hunt for a new set. heck, I even bought a set at $54 but promptly sent it back. Too expensive and the dessert plates were too small. I scored big today. I got an almost full set for only $9.99. 4 soup bowls, 4 dinner plates, 3 dessert plates and 2 small appetizer plates, all in my fave color white with a blue trim. I’m going to use them in our RV. I had purchased a plastic set for the RV but they weren’t microwave or dishwasher safe. Now, the Corelle set will do there just fine!! (the set is an older set meaning it was made in upstate NY in Corning, NY. score!!!)
