When we moved here almost 16 years ago, we had energy saving fabric pleated shades installed on the majority of our windows in our home. They are warranteed for life. The shades have held up well with the exception of the pulls that slip onto the bottom of the shades. They are cheap plastic and break every few years. It has been happening again recently. Hubby called the company again and asked them to send us more pulls for the shades. The company sends them everytime we call and knows what colors we need to match the shades because they keep the original order. This has been a company who has stood by their warranty. If we ever move, we would do business with them again.
I finally got out to do some errands. The first few days this week it just kept snowing and I just did not want to deal with it. Spring can’t come fast enough this year. I am so done with the snow and cold. I returned two more bags of bottles for the deposits. I received $ 3.25 which I used to defray a few things that I picked up while I was there. I purchased a package of coleslaw mix that was on sale for $ 2.50 and 5 Royal Zero Sugar Gelatin that were on sale for $1.00 each. So after the bottle deposit slip, I paid $ 4.25 OOP. Next I went to Aldi’s and purchased 3 French Baguettes for $1.85 each and a Corned Beef Point Cut on sale for $ 3.49 a lb. that cost me $12.11. My total was $ 17.66. I don’t know if I will see the corned beef any cheaper because of how high beef prices are. But if I do I will purchase 2 more. At least I have 1 for St. Patrick’s day and for some reubens. Two of the baguettes I put in the freezer for meals in the future.
Hubby used the Eco snow shovel to clear our walk and porch yesterday. This little shovel has worked well for us. The snowplow guy was here to clear the driveway at about 4:30am yesterday also.
Yesterday we had homemade muffins for breakfast and some yogurt. Dinner last night was chicken with some leftover broccoli. I am thinking I will roast a turkey this weekend so I will be thawing the $.50 a lb. one that I purchased after the holidays. Tonight we will have hamburgers and fries. I have fresh mushrooms that need to be used up so they will top my burger along with some swiss cheese. Hubby will carmelize some onions to top his.
My son, who lives in the Adirondacks, called us yesterday so we had a nice chat. His business is flourishing right now which is a great thing and we are happy for him. He got his internet company to cut his bill by just giving them a quick call. That has reminded me to do the same thing. So that is on my agenda for this week.
Today will be my laundry day this week. As usual it will be cold water wash and hang to dry.
Tomorrow, I will post about all of my bills that are increasing. UGH!
Did you do anything to save money that you could share? We can all learn from each other.

This past week has been a flurry of “check-up style” doctor appointments as I met my deductible this year and I go on Medicare next month. At some of the appointments, I made sure to ask for samples to take home.
I continued to use warm up shower water collected in a bucket to water my patio plants. Between my husband and I, this is quite a bit of water over the course of a week.
For my garden this year, I purchased seeds at the dollar store instead of buying starter plants. I planted them in small cups and as they grow will replant them in the ground in April. I plant just the basics. Nothing like a homegrown tomato!
I start radiotherapy next week so have been filling the freezers with quick meals on days when I am more tired. I also filled a section of the freezer with breakfast breads, pancakes, and waffles for easy breakfasts.
My husband and I have been taking quick walks before dinner to enjoy the beautiful sunsets. We’ve had some beautiful ones these past few weeks. It’s been a quick way to catch up at the end of the day and get exercise at the same time.
Hi smhuh,
That was a very smart move on your medical. Samples are the way to go. I have one very expensive drug that my doctor gives me a full month’s worth every time I see him. Also I haven’t purchased dental floss or toothpaste in years.
Yeah on the watering. You are so right about the tomatoes.I am thinking I will plant them again this year in pots.
There is nothing like meals in the freezer.I wish you the best of luck with your radiotherapy.
I am so jealous of your walks. I can’t wait until the cold leaves so that we can get outside.
Good luck with your radiotherapy! Enjoy those sunsets
We haven’t done much last week to save money, seems its all just flying out the window. Water is working so that is a plus.
Kept the weekly grocery pick up bills to under 100.00. We are eating a lot less and a lot more repetitive meals just eating from what we have. Chris has cut down on the soda and also hasn’t been working so we still have 5 24pks I think.
We have skipped 2 Friday date nights but went out last night for our anniversary. Pizza and ice cream and they comped the ice cream. we will get one more meal out of the pizza.
Transferred a chuck of money to savings to get the interest and if I need it I can move it back next week.
Hi Patti,
Yeah on the water. We are doing the same with meals here. Eating mostly from what we have. Congrats to Chris on the soda. I wish I could get Huuby to cut back.
Congrats on your anniversary. Great meal to celebrate!
I just love the passive income. It feels so good when you put more in savings.
Hi Precious, not much saving this week since we were away clearing out my mother in law’s house. We did use .20/gal discount for the gas to get home.
Smhuh, I hope your radiotherapy goes well and is not too hard on you. I will say a prayer for you.
Hi Chris,
I am glad to see you guys home safely. One chore behind you now.
