Things We Have Done To Cut Costs The Last Half Of September

We had our winter tune up for our furnace. The company quoted us $69. when we booked the appointment. When the service man finished the tune up, he said that would be $79. Hubby mentioned that we were quoted $ 69. He kept the e-mail that quoted us the $ 69. The serviceman called the office and they said to charge us the $69. If we hadn’t saved that e-mail, we would have had to pay the $ 79. We kept that $10.00 in our wallet. The serviceman asked if he could put a Buffalo Bills sign in our yard. The company is a sponsor of the Bills. We said yes. It is a nice sign and we are happy he put it there.

I refilled the waters and snacks that I keep in the car so I am not tempted to get takeout if I get hungry when I am out running errands.

I mailed in rebates totaling $ 18.00.

I got all those free things that you saw in my post from Walmart and manufacturers at the Grand Opening.

I scanned the rest of the month’s receipts into Fetch.

Hubby’s keyboard died. He purchased one that was marked down from $99.99 to $ 22.99. I clipped an additional $5.00 coupon. So we paid $ 17.99 and shipping was free.

I signed up for ShopKick using a friend’s code so that she would get a bonus. I don’t know if I will do it or not yet. It sounds like a lot of work.

I sewed on the buttons on my winter coat so they wouldn’t come loose while it is out being dry cleaned.

I continue to can on sale chicken to put on my shelves. Soup season is coming.

We do not have our furnace on yet. It had been pretty warm here for this time of year. The warmth will last at least through Sunday.

I was worried about 2 of the heart tests that my cardiologist ordered me to have done in August. I wasn’t sure what they would cost after insurance. We were thinking it would be about $200. The bill came today and it was $48. That was a nice surprise.

I used credit card points to get $100. cash back credited to my card on next month’s bill.

That was all. What have you been doing to cut costs?

Hi Precious. We have a new gas station nearby and they are having grand opening price of 2.79/gal for gas. Hubby talked to someone who works there and they are supposed to have cheap gas all of October so we will monitor the gas prices when we need. We also told daughter and SIL since they live close to us.

We got our gas, but not electric bill yet. I will report when it comes. We have not used our heat yet, but are using AC still, just not as much. Hubby has been working on our whole house generator. He is going to do the oil change/maintenance and has already determined it needed a new battery for the starter and bought that. He is also working on a little project with one of our downspouts that needs some pieces replaced where it goes underground. He uses the main downspout feed there to attach one of the Halloween decorations.

We are on the slippery slope now to the end of the year holidays! I sent a text to our kids about Christmas and something they might want. SIL sent a link to something he wanted and the web site was having 25% off. He is a good shopper too, even for Christmas. 🙂 It will be something he can put up in his man cave at the new house. We also got a couple of little things at the local flea market our town has at the end of Sept. but those are the only things I have gotten for Christmas so far.

Hi Chris,

What a great price on gas! Wow! Our lowest price here is $2.95 at the cash station.

No heat here as of now. No a/c either. It is 84 here today so we are hoping to get thru today.

It sounds like Hubby is keeping busy. Say hi for us to him.

I haven’t even thought about Christmas yet. But I better because I do stockings for everyone and I need to send them home with my one son who lives on the other side of the state. He is coming for Thanksgiving. Other than stockings we give all of our family cash too to get whatever they want. So that part is easy.

We haven’t put the heat on yet either although we will be only in the 20’s at night next week so it may have to come on
We have cut way back on groceries
As sad as losing kitty was, there is less expense there
I took advantage of my BFF offering me rides to save on Uber when I went home last weekend (Indiana), also stayed with her her and my sister
Chris took the RV to Oregon and flew home but I used a flight credit and hotel pints for that trip and he brought food and drink from home.

Hi Patti,
Good job on keeping the heat off. Ours is still off but it is going to get cold on Wednesday so it may have to be turned on. Yeah on the groceries too. I love being able to take something off the shelf in my house and know that I paid a lot less for it when I bought it than it would be now.

I hope you enjoyed your visit. Did Chris sell the RV? Nice deal on the flight and hotel, and food.

We weren’t able to sell it as it needed too much work, so he took it to Oregon to get repairs done (dedicated service center). They can also keep it until April so that’s saving us storage fees. Then we just may keep it…..we do love it!
